Before diving into this article, I want to say that I did a quick poll among my friends, and we all had different lists of top things to do! What that said to me is this: not only is there an abundance of activities on the island, but what makes it to the top of your list will be based entirely on your personal preferences.
Here are my top 10 favorite things to do in Barbados! I hope we share some in common, but if we don’t, no worries—I’ve shared loads of other activities and dining options in Barbados here.

1. Relax on the Beach:
Barbados is known for its crystal-clear waters, and enjoying one of the island’s many beaches is a must. Whether you want to swim, sunbathe, or simply take in the breathtaking views, the beaches here won’t disappoint. After all, what’s the point of living here—or visiting—if you don’t spend some time on our shores?
2. Explore Harrison’s Cave:
Take a tram tour through this stunning limestone cave system and marvel at the impressive stalactites, stalagmites, and underground streams. For the more adventurous, there’s even a crawling tour that lets you experience the caves up close and personal. They are also always adding on new things to do when there. This is a must-go for me!
3. Visit a Rum Distillery:
Barbados is the birthplace of rum, and we have a few world renowned distilleries. Take a tour to learn about its history and enjoy a tasting session. Bonus tip: Each tours on the island, offers a unique experience, so why not try a few, see which brand you love the most while learning history and enjoying a great tour!
4. Discover Bridgetown & Surrounding Areas:
Explore the capital city and take in historic landmarks like the Parliament Buildings, Queen’s Park, and the 17th-century Garrison Savannah. If you’re into history, Bridgetown is a must-see. Close by we have other historical landmarks and tours too! Plus, it’s where I find some of the most affordable shopping on the island!

5. Swim with Turtles:
Join a snorkeling or diving tour to swim with sea turtles in their natural habitat. This is a unique and unforgettable activity that can be enjoyed solo or with the whole family. I know I mentioned beaches earlier, but this deserves its own spot on the list—it’s truly special!
6. Stroll through the Andromeda Botanical Gardens:
For nature lovers, the Andromeda Botanical Gardens offer a peaceful escape. With a wide variety of tropical plants and flowers, it’s perfect for a leisurely walk, stunning photos, or simply slowing down and enjoying the beauty of Barbados.
7. Experience Oistins Fish Fry:
On Friday nights, Oistins comes alive with a bustling fish fry. Enjoy fresh seafood, local music, and a vibrant atmosphere. It’s a great blend of local culture and tourist energy. Be prepared for some lines (it gets busy on Fridays!), but the food and experience are well worth it. Think of some activities or games you can do while you wait. For those seeking a local down to earth experience this should be on your list!

8. Visit the Barbados Wildlife Reserve:
The Barbados Wildlife Reserve is home to green monkeys, tortoises, and other native wildlife, offering a unique opportunity to experience the island’s fauna up close. Unlike a traditional zoo, many animals roam freely, allowing you to walk among them. However, please don’t feed the animals—leave that to the professionals.
This safe and unforgettable experience lets you observe green monkeys in their natural environment. Although I often see them around the island, I’ve never been so close as during this tour. The monkeys are so accustomed to humans that they show no fear, making it a truly eye-opening encounter.
In addition to the reserve, your visit includes access to a hiking trail on the other side. Nearby, you’ll also find Farley Hill National Park, a perfect spot for a picnic to round out your day, or head on the East Coast to grab some lunch!
9. Explore the East Coast:
Barbados’ East Coast is rugged, less developed, and absolutely stunning. From great surf spots to uninterrupted natural beauty, it’s a chance to experience a different side of the island.
10. Enjoy a Catamaran Cruise:
Spend a day on a catamaran, snorkeling, swimming, and taking in the island’s beauty from the water. Many tours include meals and drinks, making it a relaxing and enjoyable outing. Some operators even offer fishing trips if that’s more your speed!
I hope you enjoyed my list! There’s so much more to see and do in Barbados that I couldn’t even begin to cover it all.
